Rajesh Khunt, Unleaded System Administrator
Very few people wake up in the morning and check if their website is intact and operating. Nope, they’re brushing their teeth and dressing for work.
But overnight attacks happen when you least expect it.
Attackers are always changing their methods, so we need to continuously monitor for new threats and take the necessary actions to protect our servers.
Sometimes security researchers or vendors release advisories before these attacks become widespread, allowing us to implement mitigations proactively. Other times, new attack methods are discovered only after they have already been used against servers, at which point we investigate and apply the appropriate fixes.
Older CMS platforms are often easier targets because they may no longer receive security updates or support modern security features. Whenever possible, clients should keep their CMS up to date. If upgrading is no longer feasible, migrating to a modern platform can significantly improve security and reduce the risk of compromise.
Currently, I am upgrading all of our servers with the latest security patches and implementing additional hardening measures to help prevent these types of attacks. However, we should always keep in mind that attackers continually develop new techniques. That's why, in addition to keeping systems up to date, we also maintain reliable backups and a recovery plan so we are prepared if an incident does occur.
